In Time (The Darkest Minds, #1.5)
Alexandra Bracken
Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) - Susan Ee I went into this book expecting to not enjoy it all that much. I'm not a huge fan of books about supernatural/paranormal creatures, especially angels, because a lot of them tend to be cheesy, cliche and a dime a dozen, but I am a huge fan of dystopian and post-apocolyptic novels so I thought I'd give it a go for that reason. And boy did this book ever prove me wrong! It was packed full of action from the very first chapter and I found it really easy to imagine the world in which the story is set. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, always needing to know what was going to happen to Penryn and Raffe next. The romance between them was inevitable (as it is in most books), but I can't even tell you how much I loved the fact that this wasn't just another girl meets angel, angel realizes girl is soulmate, girl and angel fall in love, angel would do anything to protect girl (and does) kind of story. I also absolutely LOVED the horror twist the book took towards the end. Yeah, there were a few gory scenes throughout the book, but I didn't see the things that happen at the end coming at all. I probably should have, but I can be a little dense like that sometimes. The ending of the book in regards to Raffe was really sad, but for some reason it made me love him even more than I already did. In regards to Penryn on the other hand, I would have much preferred something a little bit more shocking or exciting, and I would have loved a cliffhanger of some kind. I can see why things ended the way they did and how the beginning of the next book will go from there, but I just love me a cliffhanger. This book left me with a bunch of questions that I would like answers to, so I definitely can't wait for the next book! Plus that summary is really exciting too, although I do hope that the second book has more romance in it than the first one. For this book it was good, but now it's time for some Raffe and Penryn action! This book is definitely worth taking the time to read, even if you are a supernatural/paranormal skeptic like me!
